Comments for Book Blogger Hop for September 30, 2011Book Blogger Hop for September 30, 2011: 09/29/11
These are all excellent books. Please don't make me pick a favorite. Just go read them! If you want more perspective on what books are being banned or challenged where, check out this Google map (via BannedBooksWeek.org).
books | book blogger hop Comment #1: Thursday, September, 29, 2011 at 21:16:55 I have this map on my blog. It is crazy to see how much action there is in the USA. Hunger Games is a favorite for me too among many others. Here‚s Mine at FABR Comment #2: Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 22:28:11 Pussreboots The United States is big and heterogenous. Thankfully for the moment there aren't nationwide bannings of specific books but that has happened in the past (Ulysses, for example). Comment #3: Thursday, September, 29, 2011 at 21:29:43 Wow you chose a lot of them. I agree and my choice was your number one choice! Comment #4: Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 22:34:12 Pussreboots My choices aren't ranked. They're just in the same order as the ALA list. Comment #5: Thursday, September, 29, 2011 at 21:30:50 I love the map! I noticed quite a few Perks of Being a Wallflower challenges, so I just requested it from my local library. I read Annie on My Mind this week, and I'll be reading And Tango Makes Three tomorrow for Banned Book Week, but my all time favorite banned book has to be To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Comment #6: Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 22:36:13 Pussreboots I haven't read To Kill a Mockingbird yet. It wasn't required reading in high school or college and I haven't gotten around to it as an adult. Comment #7: Thursday, September, 29, 2011 at 23:21:41 Coming through on the blog hop. I cannot understand the logic behind these books being banned either Comment #8: Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 22:38:32 Pussreboots No but there they are and we have to continue reading them and fighting for those who can't get easy access to them. Comment #9: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 02:19:02 I've read quite a few of the books on the list myself. It's hard as heck to pick a favorite! I hadn't read Speak til the Scroggins man made his stink about it, then I had to just to see what the fuss was about. I really loved it and I've given away quite a few copies on my blog since then. Banning/Challenging books is just insane. Folks need to step back and stop trying to police what others read...and essentially what others think. Comment #10: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 17:56:21 Pussreboots I haven't read Speak yet. The books that get banned are so often the ones that make one think and feel. Comment #11: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 03:03:56 I like the map you put in your post. It's overwhelming and I can't imagine why those books are being banned in those places... I'm glad that I don't encounter it here... (I'm not even aware if there's some issues like this in the Philippines =P hehe Comment #12: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:12:30 Pussreboots Nor am I. I did find this list of books that have been challenge and in which countries. I don't see the Philippines on it. Comment #13: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 08:41:04 Heey there,
I also had a hard time picking a favourite! I think it's absolutely ridiculous banning books, especially if you look at the list! I acutally really enjoyed the Koran, I don't understand why you would ban it!
Comment #14: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:31:30 Pussreboots I agree with your sentiments. Comment #15: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 09:20:05 I always find that when I end up reading the books on these lists I never understand what they heck they are talking about. The Hunger Games has violence but it's not gratuitous in any way. There is a message as with most of these books. To just boil it down to a dirty words etc is disgusting and says more about the people banning than the readers. Comment #16: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:39:32 Pussreboots The people who ban books don't agree with the message and don't want their kids to think on their own. Comment #17: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 10:29:14 I have read about half on your list, and the rest were already on my TBR list! I hate how quick people are to ban (or try to ban) books. I mean, have they read them? Do they think we can keep children in a bubble forever and ever?? Comment #18: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:39:32 Pussreboots It's a shame when one parent tries to enforce his or her parenting views on every other parent. Comment #19: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 10:38:57 Picking a favourite is hard! I figure as long as no one expects my favourites to be consistent, I can throw a dart and end up with different ones every day. :D That map is very interesting! There are challenges all over the place - no wonder it's so important for all of us to speak up. Comment #20: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:45:03 Pussreboots That's a good approach to picking a favorite. Comment #21: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 14:42:23 My fave from the current list is Sherman Alexie's The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I understand why people may not want to read a book, or think that anyone should read it but, to actually try to impose that upon someone, that I do not understand! Comment #22: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:47:44 Pussreboots I'm with you on both counts. Comment #23: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 20:13:37 I think I've only read The Hunger Games off the list you posted. I'll have to read some more of them, I think :) Comment #24: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:48:01 Pussreboots I hope you do. I hope I get more of them read as well. Comment #25: Friday, September, 30, 2011 at 20:20:21 Just dropping by for the blog hop. I'm actually going to be reading Brave New World later this semester in one of my college classes. Comment #26: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:50:02 Pussreboots I read Brave New World for fun. I hope enjoy it. Comment #28: Friday, September 30, 2011 at 19:51:03 Pussreboots Welcome to my blog. Happy reading. Comment #29: Saturday, October, 1, 2011 at 23:34:03 Christy @TheReaderBee Great list! I have read a few that are on your list, and the others sound like something I would want to read. :) Thanks for sharing! Comment #30: Monday, October 3, 2011 at 22:18:33 Pussreboots You're welcome. Happy reading. Comment #31: Monday, October, 3, 2011 at 15:36:45 Jessica There was only a few on the lists I had read as well, but I was so surprised to see the list! Comment #32: Monday, October 3, 2011 at 22:18:53 Pussreboots It's good to keep up with the lists. Happy reading. Comment #33: Thursday, October, 6, 2011 at 08:42:09 Your list includes some fabulous books. Seriously everyone needs to go read some banned books, stand up for these awesome books. Comment #34: Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:28:24 Pussreboots I read banned or challenged books on a regular basis. So do my kids. Happy reading. © 1997-2012 Sarah Sammis
