I've finished my third week of summer school. So far the work load is very manageable. This week we had not home projects but we did have a heat wave. We don't have A/C so reading while boiling alive isn't exactly fun. Nor is it easy to sleep on hot nights. I finished The Naked Mole-Rat Letters by Mary Amato. It wasn't quite what I'd hoped it would be. I also finished The Lake by Banana Yoshimoto which was on my wishlist briefly before NetGalley offered me the chance to review it. I will be getting the review posted in July. I'm about a third of the way through Arcadia Falls by Carol Goodman. I heard about this book after reading The Night Villa. It's a pretty good modern day Gothic mystery set a small liberal arts college run possibly by Wiccans. I have a few quibbles with how the college is described. I probably wouldn't notices these details if my husband hadn't recently started teaching at a small college. Upcoming wishlist reads include (they are in my hands waiting to be read):
The Featured Wish for June 25, 2010:
A friend of mine posted a link to the NPR article that discusses this book. As I've never thought of myself in terms of my biological sex or my marriage or my children. Yes, I have a husband and I've borne two children but neither of those things define who I am. My son is just as against this sort of self categorization as I am so I'm curious to see what the book has to say. Comment #1: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 11:12:44 I never know the books you have on your wishlist, so I'm always in for a surprise :-) Have a great weekend! Comment #2: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:31:11 Pussreboots I learn about them from book blogs and friends but my tastes are pretty eclectic. Comment #3: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 11:16:56 I was just listening to the news yesterday and they were talking about raising children gender-neutral and though I am not a fan of typing children to boys and girls, I wasn't sure we wouldn't go completely in the opposite direction either. One extreme to another. Comment #4: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:34:11 Pussreboots We just dressed our two yellows, greens, oranges and browns when they were infants. In the end though both my son and daughter ended up with very similar tastes and the same favorite color, pink. But we didn't do anything too extreme. We mostly just avoid saying things like "boys do this" or "girls do that." Comment #5: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 12:07:06 Great wish list of books to read! I have 13 little blue envelops on mine too, as well as Keeping you a Secret. I really enjoyed Rampant and hope you do, too! Hopefully you can add that other book to your pile soon :) Comment #6: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:45:20 Pussreboots I just finished Keeping You a Secret this afternoon. I thought I had another renew on it but someone else had put it on hold. So my three weeks left dropped down to four days! Rampant is in my hands as is everything else in the bulleted list. Comment #7: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 12:14:01 Interesting choice. Not my genre. Hope you get this book soon. Comment #8: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:50:21 Pussreboots I probably won't get it until next year, asuming that my library or one nearby picks up a copy. Comment #9: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 17:00:48 Some of these books come off as so contrived. I hope this isn't the case here! Comment #10: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:53:10 Pussreboots This one sounds like it's a pretty straight up study. I'll get it reviewed if I find a copy to read. Comment #11: Saturday, June, 25, 2011 at 18:39:59 Thanks for the comment, I see that you have a lot on your wishlist xD
I'm following you now. Hugs! Comment #12: Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 22:55:23 Pussreboots All the books on the bulleted list are here and waiting to be read.
