Comments for San Francisco Then and NowSan Francisco Then and Now: 11/29/10
The book as the title implies, is a photographic comparison of present day places with places photographed in previous decades. With each pair of photographs there is a short explanation of what has changed and what has stayed the same. It's the sort of book that needs to be read twice. The fist time I suggest just going through to enjoy the photographs. The second time, go back and read the captions. A third time might be good to go through the places in city in person with the book in hand. The book is almost nine years old and the city has changed since the present day photographs were taken. Now San Francisco isn't one of those places that changes rapidly and repeatedly. It's more of a slow evolution except when mother nature shakes things up with earthquakes and the fire storms that so typically follow. Comment #2: Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 17:46:48 Pussreboots I'm not a San Francisco native but I long history with the city. My grandfather worked there and my mom grew up in the south bay. I visited a number of times before settling in the bay area myself a decade ago. The book is fascinating. It's one of a series of Then and Now books but the only one I've read. I have a few others from the series on my wishlist. Comment #3: Monday, December, 6, 2010 at 23:48:46 I love before and after photos of the city what an interesting find...I hope to grab a copy before my next trip over the bridge so I can see the changes...
