The 1991 reissue has new illustrations by Fred Marcellino. It was his first time illustrating a children's book and it was a Caldecott Honor book for that year. Plotwise there isn't much difference between Larkin and Arthur's versions. They are both working from the same source material. No, it's the illustrations. They are bold, colorful and worthy of framing. After reading the book once to my daughter we flipped through the book a couple more times just taking about Marcellino's work.
