The book takes Emberley's geometric approach to drawing to build a story of a monster being scared away. Piece by piece (with the shapes cut out from the paper and the color building from the pages beneath) the monster appears and then disappears. I think part of the allure for him is the same as the older books were for me; it's the piece by piece lessons on how to draw a monster. For me, there's not enough there to be a full book but my son loves it. Other posts and reviews:
