Mailbox Monday, image from http://www.shorpy.com/node/5169Mailbox Monday: May 31, 2010: 05/30/10

Mailbox Monday is the gathering place for readers to share the books that came into their house last week (checked out library books don't count, eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling TBR piles and humongous wish lists.

I have four new books.

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan (purchased)

The Red PyramidGoodReads description:

"Since their mother's death, Carter and Sadie have become near strangers. While Sadie has lived with her grandparents in London, her brother has traveled the world with their father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane.

"One night, Dr. Kane brings the siblings together for a 'research experiment' at the British Museum, where he hopes to set things right for his family. Instead, he unleashes the Egyptian god Set, who banishes him to oblivion and forces the children to flee for their lives.

"Soon, Sadie and Carter discover that the gods of Egypt are waking, and the worst of them— Set — has his sights on the Kanes. To stop him, the siblings embark on a dangerous journey across the globe — a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family, and their links to a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs. "

The Souls Of The Fire Dragon by John Wrieden (for review)

The Souls of the Fire DragonGoodReads description:

"Fate leaned back in his chair and smiled. 'The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference.' Death nodded in concurrence. 'Wake up, Akea, and see the truth.' A young man awakens suddenly in a cold, dark alleyway with no recall of who he is or how he got there. A woman is leaning over him, urging him to flee with her. 'The Watchmen are coming!' she warns him. He goes with her and soon recovers not only his name. Akea, but discovers that he is a powerful magician, albeit with an unfortunate lack of self-control. Together, with a small band of rebels, magicians and one very seductive female dragon, he fights for the freedom of his city and country, which lie under the tyrannical yoke of dark magicians and brutal men. "

Pinkalicious and the Pink Drink by Victoria Kann (purchased)

Pinkalicious and the Pink DrinkGoodReads description:

"One hot summer day, Pinkalicious gets an idea that is simply pinkerrific—a pink lemonade stand! But before Pinkalicious can start selling her lemonade, she has to figure out how to make it. Pink grapefruit, pink watermelon, and pink frosting—if it's pink, it's the perfect ingredient! "

The Adventures of Hotsy Totsy by Clive Cussler (purchased)

The Adventures of Hotsy and TotsyGoodReads description:

"A fun-filled adventure in the spirit of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by the New York Times-bestselling author.

"Take a look at Casey and Lacey Nicefolk and you'll see two regular, all-American kids. But these brother-and-sister twins have a secret. Hidden in the family barn is the most magical-and coolest-gadget unknown to man: a mystical box that can turn any small object into a life-size replica.

"When the twins' parents go out of town, the two decide to put the box to use. Taking a model boat, they create a fully functioning powerboat and enter a race up the Sacramento River. But this is no ordinary boat, and this is no ordinary race. What follows is a nautical adventure where being the first to cross the finish line is not the only prize. "

Although it's now my daughter who is into the Pinkalicious series, it was my son who first introduced me to them.

Susan Helene Gottfried

Ha. More Pinkalicious fun. (Btw, Victoria began as the illustrator and Elizabeth as the writer, but it looks like Victoria's taken over a lot of the writing of late, too.)

Comment #30: Tuesday, June, 01, 2010 at 17:23:31

Pussreboots

We have the previous three books by Elizabeth and Victoria. This newest one is much shorter and looks like it was a quick solo project. Together though they have two more unnamed Pinkalicious projects listed.
