Teaser Tuesday: Queen of Candesce: 02/02/10
I'm up to my 4th week in participating in the Teaser Tuesday meme. For my teaser I'm picking Queen of Candesce, the second book in the Virga series by Karl Schroeder. The rules come from MizB of Should Be Reading.
The Rules
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My current read is
Queen of Candesce by Karl Schroeder (2007). It's the second in the Virga series. I have already read the first (review coming) and fourth books.
The Summery from GoodReads
Venera Fanning was last seen falling into nothingness at the end of Sun of Suns. Now, in Queen of Candesce, Venera finds herself plunging through the air among the artificial worlds of Virga, far from home and her husband, who may or may not be alive. Landing in the ancient nation of Spyre, Venera encounters new enemies and new friends (or at least convenient allies). She must quickly learn who she can trust, and who she can manipulate in order to survive.
Survival isn't her only goal; with the powerful Key of Candesce in her hands, she can control the fate of the entire world of Virga, yet something even more pressing is driving her—the all consuming need for revenge.
The Teaser:
She barely saw the tumbled buildings as she left the blockhouse; maybe that was why she got turned around. But suddenly Venera snapped to attention and realized she was in a narrow chute formed by five clapboard structures, on her way down. (p. 57)

Down to the next level of the town. The town is a floating multi-terraced affair.

that's a lot of tumbling and falling, sounds intriguing. Fantasy genre?
Pussreboots
It's science fiction.
revenge will drive you! Interesting teaser. My TT is here .
Pussreboots
Revenge is a big motivating factor for the main character but she's in a fascinating and alien world. I'm reading it mostly for the people she meets.
Pussreboots
There are some frightening things that live in the shadowy areas of Virga but mostly it's an adventure story with a science fiction setting.
Pussreboots
It's a great series. The books build on each other just enough to make them a series but stand alone so that you don't have to read them in order.

The descriptions are a big part of what I love about the Virga series. I've changed the header again.

Thank you for stopping by. I will visit your blog shortly.
Pussreboots
Thank you. It's a well written book, so it's easy to find a good teaser.

It is especially important when the land you are on is spinning in the air and is so old that it's known to crumble in places without much warning.
