The first chapter of Devil to Pay introduced Susan Dinur as her boyfriend is whisked home early from school to plan for his Jubilee. The last waltz of the night is a symbolic way for the Crown Prince to pick his intended consort. This time though, the dance is will be rigged.
Chapter two explains why the dance will be rigged through the points of view of King George, Naga Kemjahdgaem and Prince Alfred (Freddie). I don't normally write from so many points of view but this story just wanted to go in that direction.
In Naga Kemjahdgaem's section you'll get your first taste of kenam culture and language. If you're a language geek you can try to translate the bits written in Kenamese (or the amaswirchi-kenam as they call it). The language does have a grammar and currently the lexicon has about 7000 words.
