Comments for If I Ran the Zoo
The book is written in Seuss's typical anapestic tetrameter which makes it easy to read aloud with comedic flare. My son who is an avid inventor of monsters loves this book for all the unusual animals. I personally thought most of Seuss's imaginary animals were a bit overwhelming as a kid but Sean loves them. As a bit of trivia, If I Ran the Zoo is the first book to use the word 'nerd' though not in its modern connotation. The line is "And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo and bring back an It-Kutch, a Preep and a Proo, a Nerkle, a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!" (Fun Trivia) The book was a Caldecott Honor book in 1951. All work © 1997-2009 Sarah Sammis |
