Comments for Dewey's Books: Coveting Books

Dewey's BooksDewey's Books: Coveting Books: 05/02/09

Here it is May and I haven't even begun reading for Dewey's Challenge. Part of my delay is that I've added two books to the list that I don't have on hand but I've been coveting them since Dewey reviewed them.

This month's mini challenge addresses just that: book coveting.

I don't know about you, but I was literally addicted to Dewey's blog. (Yeah, I'm pretty darn sure I wasn't alone in this addiction either!) And some of my favorite posts were her Book Coveting posts. And there were her Reading Journal posts, I really loved those. Oh, and her monthly wrap-ups. And yes, of course, her book reviews. Okay, so I guess pretty much everything she had to say…

NationBut for this mini-challenge, I thought maybe we could focus on Book Coveting. And seriously, this challenge really shouldn't be much of a challenge at all! Because all you have to do is write a Book Coveting post of your own…and I know you all have books you're coveting! So just write your post anytime during the month of May, and then come back here and add your post to the comments.

"And the randomly drawn winner will receive a subscription to Bookmarks. Seems fitting, huh?

The Three Incestuous SistersThe two books on my list that I'm coveting directly as a result of Dewey are Nation by Terry Pratchett and The Three Incestuous Sisters by Audrey Niffenegger. Were it not for Dewey's review, I probably would have missed Nation and I certainly wouldn't have picked up on the fact that it's a stand alone novel. So far most everything I've read have been his Discworld novels (the one exception being Good Omens which he cowrote with Neil Gaiman).

The Three Incestuous Sisters I would have probably ignored if I hadn't read Dewey's review. I read and pretty much hated The Time Traveler's Wife. The title and even the cool cover wouldn't have been enough for me to even consider reading The Three Incestuous Sisters. I had made the same mistake with The Time Traveler's Wife; I liked the title and the cover. But the book, I threw it across the room. Dewey's review showed me that this book is significantly different and therefore I want to give it a try.

Outside of these two book from my reading challenge, I have probably a hundred more I'm coveting some degree. I keep a list at my blog. Sometimes generous people even send me a book from it. If you're curious to see what I'm coveting, you can check out my wishlist.

I lasted about 12 pages of time travellers wife before dumping it at the nearest charity shop.

I got about 75 pages into the book, figured out the ending, skimmed the rest and confirmed that everything was as obvious as it seemed. Didn't bother with a more thorough read before releasing it via BookCrossing.
