Ooooooooh yes please :)

My favorite horror novel is, hands-down, "The Stand" by Stephen King. It's an apocalyptical story that seems to flow like a piece of music, the different threads of people's lives running separately until they bump into one another. Basically humanity shoots itself in the foot when (a) a super-flu bug escapes from the high-security military base and (b) the containing gate fails, allowing one soldier to stream out with his family and infect half a country's worth of people. The massive epidemic kills off most of the "civilized" world and then we're left with two teams, one fighting on the side of good and the other on the side of evil.

The characters, descriptions and plotline are all just *fantastic*.

I'm also overly fond of "Pet Sematary" since it was the first SK I ever read. :)

My favorite horror novel is I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. A plague turns the world?s population into vampires and one man is left to try and find a cure while he tries to remain human.

I would have to recommend the trilogy by John Saul - Suffer the Children, Punish the Sinners, and Cry for the Strangers. I read these books when I was a teenager and they have stuck with me as some of my favorite horror stories. The first two involve the disappearance of children (and being not much older myself, could be why I remember the stories). Definitely chilling books!

I think my favorite is Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write the books about Pendergast. This one is about an odd set of murders that are being commented like the words from a nursery rhymne. It is eerie and very creepy. All their books are good and scary, but this one takes the cake. A must read for anyone that likes good horror that "could" happen.

My favorite horror novel is It by Stephen King. It is one of the greatest book I have ever read. The excitement, suspense and fear just keep building up. It is way incredible for words to describe.

My favorite horror novel is The Stand by Stephen King, which I summarize as follows:

After a virus leads to the death of most of the human population in North America, the survivors feel drawn to journey either to Boulder, Colorado or Las Vegas, Nevada. The two camps become aware of one another and each recognizes the other as a threat to its survival but, ultimately, there is no pitched battle (stand) between the two camps as a member of the Las Vegas camp detonates a bomb, destroying it.

My favorite horror novel is Dan Simmons' Summer of Night. A group of boys in the 1950s band together to fight an evil presence that's arrived in their town. It's like Stand by Me mixed with The Shining, but without all the boring filler Stephen King pads his books with. I would literally hustle thorugh social events so I could get home and find out what happened next.

"The Stand" by Stephen King -- often times during a really good horror movie you'll be jolted with fear, this very rarely happens when you are "reading" the same story, "The Stand" was the first time I actually got scared while reading!

Very scary story about a family stuck in a long cold winter at a huge resort hotel all alone.

I just read a collection of HP Lovecraft stories. Really creepy. One was about a man who lost several years of his life but comes to the conclusion that at that time his body was stolen and his conscious was place in the body of a totally other species in another time. It was creepier than it sounds.

I too have to go with the classic, Stephen King, The Stand. First of all, it is a BIG chunk of a book (LOVE THAT!!) and it is a just a suspenseful tale of good vs evil set in the "end times".

The Shining by Stephen King. No description needed but the scene with the dead woman coming out of the bathtub and at that exact moment someone knocked on my window outside at 3 am made it very scary for me. Great book and a great movie.

I have to go with 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King. The definitive nail in the coffin (so to speak) for the classic vampire genre. The reason vampire literature has evolved so much is because King's novel says everything that needs to be said about the traditional vampire. He even follows all the rules (crosses, daylight, wooden stakes).

The Floating Dragon by Peter Straub. There's an industrial accident involving a chemical leak which causes people's skin to melt. At the same time, a nearby town's curse cycle is beginning. The two events combine to create a horrific time in the town. It's reminiscent of much of Stephen King, but I really liked the skin-melting part of the story.

I'd love to enter for this Requiem for the Author of Frankenstein giveaway. My favorite horror novel is probably Stephen King's The Tommyknockers. I love reading horrors though, so in truth I probably have more than one favorite.

Thanks

I'm a Stephen King fan and of all his books, I thought Thinner was clever, frightening, and I loved the twist at the end.

I haven't read a lot of horror, but I would have to say my favorite is Firestarter by Stephen King. It's about a little girl who can start fires with her mind. Of course, the authorities want to use her for experiements and their own gain.

I love historical fiction and would love this book! Thanks for hosting this wonderful giveaway.

I blogged about this giveaway here.

It's really difficult to pick just one as I read quite a bit and it varies. Of course I've read just about everything Stephen King. I did enjoy his last book Duma Key. I know most have heard about Ghost Ships and the strange things that can happen surrounding them. In this book it is the cause of all the things to happen and it's power is extremely far reaching.

The Stand by Stephen King is my favorite horror novel. It's about a plague that just about kills everyone. The survivors are drawn together through a series of disturbing dreams, some to the good side and the others to the bad side and there is a very bad man out to kill the survivors.

My favorite horror novel is still Robert McGammon's SWAN SONG, which many have accused of being a poor rendition of The Stand. I have to disagree. Swan Song is strong on its own grounds, with a disturbing storyline that both uplifts and destroys a person's opinion of humanity.

My favorite horror novel is The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. In fact, I enjoyed the entire witching series (even better than her vampires). I adore strong female protagonists and this book has Rowan Mayfair - one of the strongest. Thanks for the giveaway!

The Stand by Stephen King is my favorite horror novel. Basically, almost everyone in the world dies, and the ones remaining are either good and make their way to Colorado or evil and make their way to Vegas. It's good vs. evil. Long book, but enthralling.
