I read books set during WWII, about WWII etc etc. ALL THE TIME. It's my favorite time period to read about. So naturally I have a gazillion suggestions but I'll keep it to two!
those are two of my favorite books and I highly recommend them!

Here's my recommendation - "All Elevations Unknown" by Sam Lightner Jr. It's actually split between 1999 and WWII times - a fascinating combination of history and adventure.

The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang is the best and most tragic WWII book that I have read. It is a side of the war that many people do not fully understand and that the Japanese still deny to this day.

I think one great book about WWII is 'Slightly out focus' by Robert Capa.

I will recommend The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It is one of the best book I have ever read. It takes place in Germany during WW II and the conflict in the book is about man vs. society.

Recommend "Cross of Iron" by Willi Heinrich. It is set on the Eastern Front in 1943. It is better than the movie, not so disjointed and the characters are much more developed so you can understand their actions.

The Winds of War is one of my favorite WWII books. My father recommended it to me, and that probably has something to do with why I treasure it.

"Summer of My German Soldier" is a great book taking place during World War II. Although it might be an easy read, that does not mean the quality of the story is not there. It makes me cry every time I read it.
