Shirley Hodge says:
"Not sure if it qualifies but will enter it anyway. To my mind the quintessential medical novel has to be Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. It has been presented in varied forms (movies, comedy TV series, plays, Halloween costumes et al) since it was first published in 1818. It presents a fictional character whose persona has actually become generic in usage. Frankenstein having become not only the standard for monsters but the events leading to his creation by Doctor Frankenstein has become the quintenessential character of a 'mad doctor'. It is perhaps best described as a 'something for everyone'
novel."

My wife has alwats found Coma by Robin Cook to be the most horrific book and movie. For her the scenarios just make her blood run cold. Mind you she hasn't enjoyed any of Robin Cooks subsequent books quite as much.

Robin Cook comes to mind when you mention medical thrillers. I see most of the comments express that also with Coma coming in on top. Another good book by Robin Cook is Invasion.

You absolutely cannot say the words "medical thriller" without thinking of the great Robin Cook! My all time favorite book by his is STILL "Coma"!! The book is over 30 years old and has stood the test of time and is still a great read (no matter how many times you've read it)! Also, "Vector" is a great book of his as well! I'm in the process of reading it AGAIN!!
Thank you for a great giveaway!!

"The Stand", in the early portion where the context is being established, works well. "The Andromeda Strain" was technically adept (much better in the book than in the movie, if I remember). ANY treatment of just how medical technology can get out of hand gives chills, foreshadowing the LAST terrorists' attack to ever happen...
