Comments for The Year in Review
The Year in Review: 12/26/07
I don't normally post memes on this blog but I really like the year in review meme where one posts the first entry from each month.
January:
Happiness is Watching the Rose Parade for New Year's Day:
Another year has ended and a new one begun. Last night we had a subdued party. Ian and I tried to work on the traditional jigsaw puzzle but with his cold and my fatigue we didn't get anything beyond the outlining edge. Most years we actually finish the puzzle. This year we just weren't up to the task.

February:
Ian pointed out correctly that it's been more than a year and a half since our last real vacation. The last time we went anywhere (except for visiting relatives) was in July 2005 when we went to Lassen. We had planned to go somewhere last summer but that was before Harriet. There was no way I was up to traveling while heavily pregnant with her.

March:
Now that I've filled you in on the Roosevelt elk we saw on the way northward, let's blip back to Oregon for the return trip to Eureka.
We finished lunch and our book purchases by 2 PM, so we were on schedule for starting our trip down the coast with enough time to stop at a number of sites we had skipped on the way north.

April:
Ian's new macbook has always had problems with its power management. A firmware update helped for a while but recently it would only stay powered up if the power cord was plugged in. As the machine is still under warranty, Ian took it in to be looked at.
Sean, feeling a little cooped up really wanted to go to the park (any park). So Sean, Harriet and I dropped Ian off at the Apple Store and then spent a lovely (and windy) hour at the Dublin Civic Center Park. This is the same park we went to a week ago while Ian was getting his hair cut.

May:
If Sean had his way, dinner would always be from a short list of favorites: waffles, pancakes, hot dogs, artichokes, crepes, mac' and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches or peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Sometimes we'll make something off that list for dinner to include Sean in the dinner decision making process but we can't always do it. Nor do we always want to do it.

June:
After a lovely breakfast of scrambled eggs and a morning nap for Harriet, Mom took Sean, Harriet and me to La Jolla Shores. Ian's mobile phone had died sometime during the trip and he needed our car to track down a replacement phone. Putting Harriet's car seat into Mom's bug was no joke!

July:
July is here and that means it's officially time to start reading for fun. The first annual Beach Blanket Bonanza begins! When I announced this challenge, I posted a list of authors I would read but not a proper list of books.

August:
Back in the 1980s, Jane Yolen wrote a series of early reader science fiction / humor books involving Commander Toad and the crew of the Star Warts. At our last trip to the library we checked out three of these books for Sean to read on our trip down to Santa Barbara.

September:
Over the Labor Day weekend, we traveled down to South Pasadena for a birthday extravaganza. We celebrated four birthdays with one cake: Sean, Harriet, Judy and me. The main focus of course was one Sean and Harriet so they each had a candle on the cake.

October:
The second book I read this summer for my participation in this November's Nanowrimo is a memoir of a man who worked on a survey team in Utah. Shooting Polaris begins with John Hale's first summer as a novice flag man on a government survey team in the 1970s.

November:
Auntie Mame was one of my favorite movies as a child. So when BookCrossing offered me the chance to read the book that inspired the film, I had to jump on it. Of course, real life being what it is, I ended up shelving the book for about three years before I finally read it. The Book to Movie Challenge at SMS Reviews finally inspired me to read the book.

December:
Every so often I like to so these odd ball type pieces where element stands out from the others. So when I saw "One Red Tie" by K. Madison Moore, I had to drop everything and try my own version. I misread the title as "One Red Tile" and did in fact make tiles. I used the DTE to create my own custom patterns. Each tile is different.

"What a lovely idea for an end of the year T-13 ... reviewing in this manner and reliving memorable experiences. Of course this year mine would have just two entries since I started blogging near the end of October, but I might file this idea away for future reference. Thanks for sharing.
Hugs and blessings, "

Michelle O. says:
"Sounds like you had a busy but good year. It's been about a year and a half since our last vacation, and we need to plan one. Time slips by so fast."
