Comments for the Cape

The CapeThe Cape: 10/05/07

When I was first learning digital art and honing my skills at model building, I subscribed to the "model of the week" offered back then by an artist named David Cole. Since then Cole has vanished off the radar but I am still using the models I bought from him back in 2000.

My favorite model of Cole's is this lighthouse. I've used it in a number of pieces over the years. One of my favorite pictures is an early Bryce 5 render I did called "The Lighthouse at New Delphi."

For "The Cape" I took my inspiration from Nancy Poucher's pastel painting "Study of Long Point Light." I like her placement of the lighthouse and the hint at the grass on the cliff in the foreground.

I tried to capture the feel of the overgrown cliff with a combination of a Bryce terrain and a modified version of xceiverx's water plant.
