Maxine Runs Hot: 05/15/07
Back when we sold Ferdinand we joked that Maxine was now our "old car" and we hoped she wouldn't notice. Well, she's noticed. A week ago Sunday while we were coming back from Dublin, the car shuddered and then the AC seemed to go in and out. The next day the car nearly over heated and we quickly discovered we could keep her running warmer than normal but still safely if we didn't use the AC.
Today Ian took her in for service. She needed to have her AC looked at, a smog check (her first ever?) and a regular tune up. By one o'clock it was clear that Maxine would have to stay overnight because she needs two new radiator fans. Her original two are warped to the point that they no longer work. We're guessing that three years living in Pacifica, plus a couple years of parking in puddles at work and our redwood slog through the water to see the elk caused them to rust and deform.
In the meantime we've rented a 2007 bright red Accord. We've installed the car seats in it and have used it to get Sean home from school and will again tomorrow to get Sean to school. Hopefully we can return the car and pick up Maxine tomorrow.
