Comments for Vanish with the Rose

Vanish with the Rose: 8/04

I'm currently enjoying Vanish with the Rose by Barbara Michaels (Barbara Mertz who also publishes as Elizabeth Peters). It's typical of her darker mysteries invovling an old house, mysteries hidden in a long neglected garden and forgotten memories resurfacing. It reminds me of her Smoke and Mirrors except that the story is more immediate in its engagement with the reader. It mixes humor, suspense and mystery into a compelling and delightful read.

Early Morning Shopping:

Sean and I got a nice early start across the bridge today. Since we arrived in San Carlos with ten minutes to spare, I decided to stop at Walgreen's with Sean to pick up the diapers and wipes he needs for day care rather than doing the shopping myself later in the day. Walgreen's is in the final stages of the construction, putting in a new entrance and a new facade. Sean loved all the construction equipment. He treated the stop as one giant treat. Anyway we got in and got out quickly and got to school and work on time.
