The sun and the moon have been a constant theme in my work.

Corwin... One Prince in Amber
This Photoshop collage is inspired by the Amber series by Roger Zelazny.
April 2001 |

Gargoyle 2
Back in 2001 I was a product tester for the 3DCommune and this was one of those test images. I like the colors of it but otherwise it's not one of my favorites.
April 2001 |

Luna
I did this with a Flaming Pear plug in and a ding bat font in Photoshop.
April 2001 |

Twin Suns
I did this two part composite render in Bryce after some one posted a challenge to see if it were possible to have alien worlds of mulitiple suns or moons.

|

Solstice
In this Photoshop piece I wanted to represent the solistice for the northern and southern hemispheres at once.
May 2001 |

Home Planet
Done for the weekly Project Imagination theme at alt.binaries.3d.bryce. 100% Bryce with no post production (other than the title at the bottom).
June 2001 |

Mind Warp 3D
I had a dream about being on a space station made from an asteroid. Looking out the window I saw a spiral and glass tree and ultimately a moon.
June 2001
|

Mind Warp 3
Here is the Photoshop version of the same dream inspired picture. I think the Bryce version is a better represention of what I dreamt.
June 2001 |

Mirror Tray
I did the mirror tray for Tony Lynch's mirror/mirror challenge. I modeled and rendered in Ray Dream (Carrara).
June 2001 |

What?
This angry cat is made up of Photoshop custom shapes.
August 2001 |

Unexpected Arrival
This is a Bryce / Painter piece and it's very rough and rather cheesy but I like it because it helped me work out some of the aspects of a uniform I was trying to describe. So forgive me for my sentimental posting of a rubbish drawing.
September 2001 |

Tales from the Darkside
While the pumpkin is deformed, it is still one of the most complicated objects I have built in the vertex editor. I reused the Red Room project for this Halloween piece.

Red Skies at Night
This is another south pole sunset but on a different planet. I don't recall which planet this is.

Bay Area (Chisel Peak)
I thought these land forms were a good approximation for what we have here in the Bay Area.
November 2001 |

Desert Shadows
I don't remember who made this planet but I probably got it from the 3DCommune. This coastline reminds me of California.
November 2001 |

The View from East Bay
Just imagine a long bridge in the middle of the water and it would look like the southern bit of San Francisco Bay.
November 2001 |

Once in a Blue Moon
Lava City was my third attempt at building a planet from scratch.
December 2001 |

Moonrise at Lava City
I used this planet to learn about creating moons and parameter bombs.

December 2001 |

Starry Night
I drew this colorful piece on paper with Pentel Pens.
December 2001 |

Night Owl
I drew this with Pentel pens. I was just inspired to do it and it practically drew itself. This owl image is now one of Sean's favorites. He even has a shirt with it on it.
January 2002
|

Deja Vu (or Three Flying Carpets on Autopilot)
Another of the Project Imagination themes on the binary news group inspired this piece, as did the "deja vu" of being pregnant again. Except this time it looked like things would really work (which they did).
January 2001 |

Sunrise (Planet March)
Here is my fifth(?) MojoWorld planet.
March 2002 |

I love the moody atmosphere of this challenge world.
May 2002 |

Moon Rise on Bart
I lke to render moons in MojoWorld.
May 2002
|

Snowy Path
The name refers to the path on the ground in the left corner of the piece but most people who have looked at this render think it refers to the cloud formation that bisects the moon.
June 2002 |

Moonstruck
This planet has some cheese wedge shaped moons!
October 2002
|

Moon Glow
A green and red moon.
November 2002 |

The Waiting Room on a New Moon
I was playing with creating differently shaped interiors.
March 2004
|

Rapunzel
I created te tower and other castle bits with boolean operations. The tower just seemed to need Rapunzel's hair so I added it in with Photoshop.
March 2004
|

Night Reflections
Someone wanted to know if it was possible to have a night scene come througha window and still have a slight reflection from the interior without drowning out the view with the reflections. I put this piece together to demonstrate a technique.
March 2004
|

New Moon
A reprisal of a previous piece.

Created January 20, 2005
|

San Pedro Sun Towers
I added a small city to a spot on Planet Avon.
Created January 28, 2005

Light the Fire
The lighthouse is a tree. It comes with MojoWorld and am in awe of things that MojoTree can create. Someday I hope to be able to create things like this lighthouse. Anyway, a nautically themed planet like Brighton needs a lighthouse, so I've added one in. I'll probably add a few more here and there.
Created February 10-11, 2005

The New Moon
This simple drawing started as a doodle. I liked the doodle enough that I recreated it in Photoshop.
Created March 15-6, 2005
|

178/1 CMYK
My first render from slav's challenge planet, CyberCity. I did a three layer treatment and changed the hue in two of them to change the moon and mountain's colors.
Created April 20, 2005
|

Moonrise on Lavagna
Here is the second render from Planet Lavagna. The planet doesn't get this dark with it's actual settings so I adjusted the contrast in Photoshop to draw attention away from the landscape and to the moon sliver.
Created May 31, 2005
|

Owl Moon
I drew this owl in Photoshop using custom shapes. It started with a pen doodle I did at work. I thought the doodle was cute enough to recreate in Photoshop.

Early Morning Moon
I saw the most beautiful full moon setting over the north west end of the San Francisco Bay this morning as I crossed the San Mateo Bridge. It was pink against the slate gray sky. I did this quick illustration in Photoshop to capture what I had seen.

 September Moon
There was a beautiful nearly full moon today on the way home from getting dinner.

 Owl and the Moon
Sean and I read Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel. The last chapter is called "Owl and the Moon" and it has a beautiful illustration of Owl standing at the seaside watching the moon rise. As I already have an owl model, I decided to try to recreate the image in Bryce. In working on the piece, I tried to keep the colors similar to the earth tones Lobel uses in most of his books. I'm rather pleased with how it turned out.
Created October 9, 2006 |
 Winter Sun
I did this drawing to practice with the brushes and the new blending options.
Created January 24, 2007 |
 Sliver Moon
A rendering from Planet Janus.
Created March 30, 2007 |
 Moonset
Inspired by "Early Morning Moon," a drawing I did back in December 2005.
Created April 30, 2007 |
 Link Fire
There are two massive fires burning in our area. The Link Fire is the closest, being south east of San Jose in the Henry Coe State Park. There's another one north east of us in Lassen county. With two fires in our air space our normal fog has been replaced by ashy clouds that turn the sun red at sunset and orange at sunrise.
Created September 5, 2007 |
 Fire Clouds at Sunrise
The morning after we had the tomato red sunset, we had a sunrise with an off yellow sun and ash falling from the sky. The air was so thick with smoke that the shafts of light were red as if it were sunset. This time I tried to capture the effect in Bryce.
