Sometimes my pieces are illustrations.
Winner's Circle
Trophy created in Ray Dream. Rendered in Bryce. Post produced to death in Photoshop.

Sunny Los Angeles
I took a color photograph I had snapped at MacCarther Park and sepia toned it. Ten I added some noise and the old fashioned photograph album corners. Of course the skyline in Los Angeles didn't take this form until the mid 1980s/early 1990s but it was still a fun exercise.

Corwin... One Prince in Amber
This Photoshop collage is inspired by the Amber series by Roger Zelazny.

Thank Your For Your Support
I drew this piece in Photoshop just after my second miscarriage to thank everyone who had sent me words of support and virtual hugs. Of course #3 was the charm and we now have our son Sean and baby number two is on the way. So a happy ending to a sad picture!

All Hands on Deck
This piece is a Photoshop collage.

Crabby Joe's
I put this together in Photoshop from some photos I had on hand. I don't recall what font I used for the text.

Solstice
In this Photoshop piece I wanted to represent the solistice for the northern and southern hemispheres at once.

Crossed Fingers
100% Bryce 5. I used metaballs to create the hand and fingers.
June 2001
|
Information
I drew this in Photoshop at a time when we were going through a redesign at work and I had been spending the entire day working on web site icons.

Aloha... Wish You Were Here
I was doing a test render of the palm trees and the depth of field focus. The resulting picture reminded me of a postcard so that's what I turned it into.

Paranoia
This is the shadow of my metaball alien cast upon a wall.

Stars and Stripes
Someone posted a challenge on the alt.binaries.3d.bryce group to do a patriotic / "stars and stripes" type image. I took the challenge literally and chose to do some stripes on a star back drop rather than doing yet another flag render.

Artist's Block
This was another challenge project for the Bryce binary group.

Where Am I?
One of my rare attempts at a "Woody" picture. Woody pictures tend to be humorous renders staring an artist's manequin. Hubert originally popularized these. You can see more at the 3DCommune.

Primary Colors I did this piece when I was reviewing Corel Photopaint for an online ezine. I found the program frustrating to use but I rather like this piece. The antelope was photographed by my mother in law.

Cosmic Question
I drew this with Project Dogwaffle.

Deja Vu (or Three Flying Carpets on Autopilot)
Another of the Project Imagination themes on the binary news group inspired this piece, as did the "deja vu" of being pregnant again. Except this time it looked like things would really work (which they did).

Ice Cream with Banana Slugs (Things that Should Not Be)
I did this for another Project Imagination challenge. The banana slugs were supposed to be pickles since I was pregnant at the time but they ended up looking more like banana slugs thank pickles. I decided to let them stay as banana slugs.

Line in the Sand
I did this one for Project Imagination. The stick I made with the vertex editor. The line is a negatively booleaned terrain and plane.

Shelter from the Rain
I was inspired to create this piece from the rain scene in My Neighbor Totoro. The bus shelter that I built in Carrara has a lot more detail than is shown in this render. For the best results for the rain I had to add it in some Photoshop post production work.

Rock and Roll
I took this challenge literally. I created the roll in the vertex editor.

Losing My Marbles
This render is done with all Bryce primatives, including the chalk circle on the black top.
June 2002 |

Waiting
There is Sean's owl again. The circle on the calendar was his original due date. He decided to wait
until August 20th.

The Search for
Intelligent Life Continues
I did this render after being sent home from the hospital for false labor.
August 2002 |

Fertility
I created the tree goddess in the vertex editor of Carrara but rendered her in Bryce.
January 2003 |

Lucy
Here is the tree goddess floating as a satelite to a MojoWorld planet.
January 2003 |

B is for...
I drew this for a Janeecake challenge.
January 2003 |

The Ladder
My first test image of a copy of Illustrator I had installed at home.
March 2003 |

The Daily Commute
I created the snail in Carrara and rendered it in Bryce. The picture was inspired by some very long commutes home from Redwood Shores. Shortly after doing this piece I lost that job!
September 2003 |

Looking for Lemons
Done in Bryce after a long absense from art of any type. I had been too busy with finding work to have any creative energy..
January 2004 |

Don't Turn Around (That's What the Mirrors Are For)
I drew the cars in Illustrator and composited them with a panoramic Bryce render.
February 2004 |

Music Industry
At my then new job I was asked to work on some icons while I was being set up for my actual job. This quick Photoshop piece uses some of the icon ideas I had come up with.
February 2004 |

Wu Wei
I did this piece after reading The Tao of Pooh. The water flowing is done with metaballs.
June 2004 |

Pride
June is gay pride month.
June 2004 |

Better Living through Science
This is planet Joss. I had made a goof with the sun's size but it came out with a fantastic retro style render.
August 2004 |

Data Entry
I started this piece with a doodle on graph paper. I realized that my doodle would tile nicely and I recreated it in Photoshop and defined it as a background. Then I created a new file and laid down the doodle as the background. I filled in some of the boxes with colors but decided that I liked the large amount of white space so I didn't color everything in

Green in a Sea of Red
Inspired by last month's experiment with creating tiling textures in Photoshop, I put this piece together. I drew the initial diamond and offset it. Once I had cleaned it up, I defined it as a pattern and then used it to fill a layer in a larger file. I then went in and used red to clor in some of the areas. I first did a one that only used red and saved that for a texture to use in Bryce (see "Red & the Black Inn"). To make this piece pop a bit more, I reserved the center spot for a vivid green.
April 8, 2005 |

Evening Star
I drew another tiling shape on graph paper and then reproduced it in Photoshop. Once I had it done and defined as a background, I set to coloring in the shapes.
April 13-4, 2005 |

Bleak House
I started this drawing with just a blank red book on a tartan blanket but the book needed a title. Since I'm currently reading Bleak House (and enjoying it thoroughly) I chose it as the title for my opened red book. The drawing is 100% Photoshop.
April 15-18, 2005 |

Alzheimer's
While working on some models for a different project, this image came to mind. I've known quite a few lovely people who suffered through Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This image is dedicated to them, their friends and family.
April 20-1, 2005 |

A Man's Night In
The milliner's dummy is one of the most complex models I've made in the vertex editor. I don't know why nearly a decade later the vertex editor is finally clicking with me, but it is. The image was inspired by a story about advertising I heard on Market Place.

Nanowrimo 2005
If I don't post many new pictures in November, it's because I'm busy with my second year of participating in Nanowrimo.
October 31, 2005 |

Winter Solstice
I drew this with Photoshop to capture my impressions of this morning's commute across the bridge. Today is the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere.

Wedding Cake
With Bush's stupid and hateful call again for a constitutional amendment to "protect" marriage I felt compelled to create this piece. With the exception of the table which is a reused model I created some years ago in Carrara, everything else is pure Bryce. Terrains and the rounded cylinder (in the imports preset library) lend themselves perfectly for frosting. The grooms up top are made from Bryce primatives except for the hat which I've just remembered is borrowed from last year's image.
