Puss Reboots: Digital Art: Themes: Flowers

Flowers are another of my favorite subjects.

Lines
California Poppy for Mom
I drew this in Photoshop for my mother for Mother's Day.

May 2001
Shadows
Conversation Room 2
I added an orchid to the room. This orchid model, though flawed, is one of my favorite creations.

April 2002

Broken Window
Asian-Californian Fusion
Sometimes I like to model and render food scenes. This render is one of my favorites of the set.

April 2002

Red Rose
Note the shakey hands from sleep deprivation

August 27, 2002

A Weed at Work
I drew the weed with a standard black pen. I brought it home, scanned it and colored it with Photoshop.

December 11, 2002

California Gold
Inspired by our many drives past Rockaway Beach where the California poppies bloom nearly year round.

April 2003

The Gardener's Work Bench
I built the watering can as an excuse to play with Bryce trees again.

April 2003

Apple Blossom
Drawn with Illustrator.

May 2003

Reflections on a Day's Work
The blue light was my latest creation in Carrara. I like the muted colors of this piece.

June 2003
Castle New Haven, January 3001
Castle New Haven, January 3001
One of my rare Carrara renders. Usually I just model in it and then render in Bryce.

November 2003

Wild Poppy
Created and rendered in Carrara.

March 2004

Complimentary Colors
Here is the same poppy rendered
in Bryce.

March 2004

Tail Flower
I drew this flower for my son who was fascinated with a group of them growing outside our old apartment.

March 2004

The Waiting Room on a New Moon
I was playing with creating differently shaped interiors.

March 2004

Night Reflections
Someone wanted to know if it was possible to have a night scene come througha window and still have a slight reflection from the interior without drowning out the view with the reflections. I put this piece together to demonstrate a technique.

March 2004

Shadows on the Garden Wall
Here is a close up of a nice Bryce tree.

May 2004

Complimentary Chicken
Playing with colors.

May 2004

Lupin in the Afternoon
The lupins are made with Bryce trees and custom leaves for the flower bits. They are one of my most successful ventures in the tree editor.

June 2004

Under the Manzanita
I used photographic pieces of a couple manzanitas to make these shrubs but the shapes aren't at all manzanita like. Nonetheless the resulting bushes are still nice looking.

June 2004

Adobe Ruins
I wanted to see if I could do an overgrown scene using Bryce trees. It turned out pretty good.

June 2004

Steps of the Sun
My daisy bush is one of my favorite Bryce tree creations.

June 2004

Garden Path
I didn't like the way the previous lamps turned out in "Our Front Steps" so I rebuilt them for "Garden Path".

September 2004

The Sunflower
I drew this flower for my son. I used a custom shape for the center seeds.

September 2004

Desert Flower
My second venture in MojoWorld. MojoTree is deceptively easy at first glance.

December 2004

The Muses of Avon
I added these boulders and flowers to another spot on Planet Avon.

Created January 28, 2005

Hunting for Eggs
I had one of those "eureka!" moments with Carra's vertex editor last night and ended up creating a beautifully ornate fence. That fence was the start of this image, though it now is but a dim background detail at the edge of the garden.

Created March 24-5, 2005

Barber Shop
Blue and Orange
The flora pattern is actually part of a curtain model I created in Carrara. This image doesn't really highlight the curtain very well but I liked the play between the orange flowers and the blue wall.

Created May 6-9, 2005

Lying on the Floor
I created the blue ceiling lamps in Carrara and put this Bryce render together to test them out.

Created May 20, 2005

Barber Shop
Spring
Drawn with Photoshop. I used the air brush a great deal in this one.

Created June 16, 2005

Wildflowers
Another Photoshop drawing of
flowers. I like the color combinations of
yellows and oranges against the
bright blue sky.

Created June 23, 2005

Barber Shop
Daffodils
Drawn with Photoshop. For this piece I concentrated on color and tone to create a sense of light and shade.

Created July 18, 2005

Daffodil Wall
The daffodils are in bloom and I wanted to see if I could recreate them. I used Carrara's vertex editor for the bloom and I am pleased with the result.

Created March 7, 2006

Barber Shop
Still Life with Daffodils
I like the bright yellow flowers against the neutral setting.

Created March 9-10, 2006

Barber Shop
Spring Time by the Freeway
After nearly two months of rain even the freeway drainage ditches are looking beautiful. This render is based on a pretty spot I saw along the 101. The foreground weeds are by 3DCommune member Erasor except for the sunflower which I redid in Photoshop.

Created March 22-4, 2006

Flowers for Flowers
Every time Sean looks at "Flowers for Spring" he complains that there should be flowers in the flower cups (or "Flowers for Flowers"). Last night I put this piece together based on his instructions. The title and idea are all his but the execution is mine.

Created May 8, 2006

Barber Shop
Poppy, Acorns and Kettle
I wanted to see how my poppy model would look under a light dome, so I put together this render. I tried to keep most of the materials as simple as possible to put the emphasis on the flower and on the lighting.

Created August 2, 2006

Purple and Green
I tried for a looser style for this cyclamen drawing.

Created August 8, 2006

Captive Beauty
I built the low-poly bird in Carrara but rendered in Bryce.

Created September 26-7, 2006

Poinsettias
I'm working on design ideas for this year's Christmas card.

Created October 12, 2006

Six Poinsettias
I did this render to satisfy my curiosity. I wasn't completely satisfied with the first version. While this version is my favorite of the two, most people I've asked, prefer the first version because it is "unique." That's exactly the problem I'm having with it; it's unique. It doesn't feel like a traditional card to me. As the majority of the folks who will be receiving the card have voted for the first version, I will most likely use that version.

Created October 13, 2006

Flowers
These were supposed to be California poppy blossums but they didn'y turn out quite right.

Created October 24-6, 2006

Aflight
Inspired by the "Light and Airy" challenge on the Bryce group.

Created November 4, 2006

Pineapple Express
I took a break from the Gashcrumb Tinies to do a render for the Bryce Challenge at the 3DCommune. The theme is tropical paradise.

Created February 23-5, 2007

1st March
March 1st is St. David's Day (patron saint of Wales). The daffodil is the national flower of Wales. In honor of my friends over there and because I was inspired by the daffodiles growing out front of Sean's preschool, I took time off from doing more Gashycrumb Tiny images to do a daffodil picture. Properly speaking though, I should have added a leek; maybe next year.

Created March 1, 2007

If I Were an Ant
I took my inspiration from a piece I did in 2002 called Warm Pretzel on a Summer's Day.

Created May 18-9, 2007

Georgia
I did another drawing in Photoshop. I like focusing on pieces and details, rather than the "whole picture." For Georgia I concentrated on the feet. I used custom shapes for the flowers on the grass.

Created July 9, 2007

Blue Vases
Inspired by a painting I saw on Saturday. The vases are all models I created back in 2005. The flowers are just Bryce primatives. The render took 48 hours to complete.

Created August 25-7, 2007

Blue Poppy
Artist Carol Marine says in her statement about "Blue Daisy" that she is struggling her paintings being too dark. It is her use of dark tones and uniform pallets that attracks me so much to her work. My latest render "Blue Poppy" is obviously inspired by "Blue Daisy." I switched the daisy for a poppy because I like the balance of complimentary colors and because I had one on hand. The bottles are reused from "Square Bottles" and the coffee cup has been featuring prominantly in many of this month's pieces.

Created November 11, 2007

David's Kettle
I liked the reflections in "3 Brown Eggs Reflected in Chrome" and went from there. My favorite shinny model is this kettle. I wanted to bring some color in to the piece and the daffodils just seemed like the natural choice.

Buy a copy of "David's Kettle" to hang on your wall.

Created December 4-6, 2007

Poppy
I created Poppy as a test render.

Created December 25, 2007

Cadair Coch
"Cadair Coch" (Red Chair) is the third in my "Sitting" series. It will be the March picture in my 2009 calendar.

Buy a copy of "Cadair Coch" to hang on your wall.
