The CapeThe Cape
One of my favorite purchased models is this lighthouse done by David Cole back in 2000. I used it and a modified version of xceiverx's water plant model to create "Cape". The lighting and set up are inspired by "Study of Long Point Light" by Nancy Poucher.

JacksJacks
After doing the last piece with models created by other Bryce artists, I decided to go back to basics and create something in Bryce using primitives. After seeing "Game Time" by Gerald Schwartz, jacks seemed like the perfect easy challenge.

GossipGossip
It's been a month since I did a drawing in Photoshop. This latest drawing uses a custom dynamic brush, the pen tool, gradient fills and some gausian blurs. It is inspired by "Girls Talk!" on the ParisDailyPhoto blog.

The Orange RoofThe Orange Roof
After seeing Ria Hills's lovely painting "Roadside Cottages" I had to see if I could recreate the cottages in Bryce. The trickiest piece was the creation of the equalateral frame. I had to do it with three cubes and some Boolean operations. Once again for the vegetation I used the modified version of xceiverx's water plant model.

Yellow TomatoesYellow Tomatoes
Carol Marine is doing a series of fantastic paintings of yellow tomatoes. I wanted to see if I could create a good looking material for my tomato model. I started with the set up from "Cucumber Slices" but removed the cucumber and changed the red to yellow. I also changed the dimensions of the plate to be circular.

Square BottlesSquare Bottles
Michael Naples has been doing a number of paintings recently involving bottles and books. His most recent one has some bottles with square bases and round mouths. I just had to see if I could model something like that in Carrara. It's been ages since I've worked in multiple cross-sections to the modeling process took about an hour. The render took 2 days.

AmbrosiaAmbrosia
I was inspired by Jamie Williams Grossman's painting "Egg and Glass Globs", another painting featured in the daily painters blog. My glass pieces are meta balls and they brought an otherwise simple piece up into the range of a two day render. The rest of the set up, including the egg, is resused from "Eggs", a piece I did back in September.

Country ButterCountry Butter
The Shorpy blog has been running a recent series of beautiful color photographs from the 1940s. The man stopping to read the sign at this store in Nebraska caught my eye. I decided to focus on that moment in this quick Photoshop sketch.

His and HersHis and Hers
Michael Naples painted the lovely "Morning Coffee" and it made me realize that while I have rendered coffee pots, I haven't rendered an actual cup of poured coffee. I also tried to capture the shadow placement but rather than one cup, I did two. Ian likes black coffee and I like it "au lait" and it seemed like a good challenge to try to do both. Although Ian's cup is actually pitch black, it renders this caramel color. I need to try again in future renders until I can learn the secret behind the perfect digial cup of black coffee.

Coffee and a CookieCoffee and a Cookie
I did this render mostly to work more on getting the perfect shade for black coffee. I like this version better.

SquashSquash
Jamie Williams Grossman's lovely painting called "Nestling" reminded me of the lovely gords we saw at the pumpkin patch. I decided to work from the set I've used in "Eggs" and "Ambrosia" but give the cloth a more autumny feel to match the squash I modeled in Carrara.

RedRed
Every so often I like to so these odd ball type pieces where element stands out from the others. So when I saw "One Red Tie" by K. Madison Moore, I had to drop everything and try my own version. I misread the title as "One Red Tile" and did in fact make tiles. I used the DTE to create my own custom patterns. Each tile is different.
