Vodka TonicVodka Tonic
Once again I'm taking my inspiration from a recent painting. I like Jelaine's version better but I enjoyed the challenge of the piece. All the models are my creations as are the materials. I worked especially hard on the materials for the glass, vodka and ice and on the lighting of the scene. The render took 48 hours to complete.

Look UpLink Fire
There are two massive fires burning in our area. The Link Fire is the closest, being south east of San Jose in the Henry Coe State Park. There's another one north east of us in Lassen county. With two fires in our air space our normal fog has been replaced by ashy clouds that turn the sun red at sunset and orange at sunrise.

Fire Clouds at SunriseFire Clouds at Sunrise
The morning after we had the tomato red sunset, we had a sunrise with an off yellow sun and ash falling from the sky. The air was so thick with smoke that the shafts of light were red as if it were sunset. This time I tried to capture the effect in Bryce.

Red SailsRed Sails
For my digital art I try to stick with making my own models for consistency in style and for the enjoyment of making something new. There are a few exceptions to my self-imposed rule and one of those exceptions is Pinheads lovely ship which I've used in a number of renders. This most recent render of pinhead's ship is inspired by the painting "Seascape, The Schooner Roseway" by Nancy Poucher.

California in a BottleCalifornia in a Bottle
I started with "Avocado Halves No. 3" by Michael Naples but then I got to thinking about how I would miss fresh avocados being so readily available if I were to move from California. That reminded me of the ship bottle I had created last year and that's when the image gelled for me.

The Green MarbleThe Green Marble
I was inspired by a painting called "Marble" by Jens Ole Olsen but I chose to render my version with more dramatic lighting and with a camera set similar to what I used in "Red Sails" earlier this month.

The Green Marble #2The Green Marble #2
This version is a top down render of the same set up as in version #1.

Acorn BoxAcorn Box
I was inspired by "Acorn" painted by Duane Keiser but I knew my acorn model (created in 2005) so I wanted to do something more. I decided to build on the work I did for "Blue Cube, Red Spheres" while using some of the lighting techniques from "Vodka Tonic".

Stacked CupsStacked Cups
I was inspired by Carol Marine's "Stack of Cups" painting. I liked the apparent simpilicity of it. Actual set up wasn't as simple as it first looked like it would be and it took a couple of attempts to get a good render.

OlivesOlives
I was inspired by "Olives on the Loose" painted by Delilah Smith. I reused the olive model I created back in 2002, although I did update the materials to attempt for greater realism.

EggsEggs
I was inspired by Michael Naple's "Eggs on White" painting. Bryce comes with an egg preset in its "Imported Objects" library. I've used this egg a number of times especially when I want to do a relatively quick piece (at least in terms of set up). This time though I spent about an hour building a display cloth in Carrara to use as a backdrop for these eggs. The egg cup is another Bryce preset from the "Booleaned Objects" library.

Watermelon SlicesWatermelon Slices
I was inspired by Carol Marine's "Watermelon" painting. I've done watermelon pieces before but not slices that semicircles. It looked like a good way to work with booleaned primitives.
