July 2006

Light House at DuskLight House at Dusk
I'm reusing a favorite model of David Cole. I have also included Renderin's lovely windmill and some rocks by Frogdot. Sean helped with the set up and lighting. He has a great eye for detail.

Cooling DownCooling Down
Here is my first Photoshop drawing for the month of July. I like the juxtaposition of the bright oranges against the drak grays of the brick background.

The WarehouseThe Warehouse
I like the way the setting or rising sun casts a warm orangish light against the surfaces of buildings.

The HideawayThe Hideaway
The house, actually called hideaway, was created by David Cole in 2001. I had hoped for a greater sense of forest in this render but Bryce was starting to choke on the trees already in the piece. I plan on reusing his house in future projects and will thinking of some other tricks for those future renders. There are also two models by Tigerrock: the water tower and the generator. Everything else (including all of the materials except those on Tigerrock's pieces) is mine.

The Neon ParrotThe Neon Parrot
I needed to take a break from my personal challenge of using each of David Cole's models in a piece. The "current" one that I've opened is a round house but it doesnt' have the tracks and I'm just not sure I want to make a rail yard piece. I realized that emotionally I was missing the thrill of creating my own model and it had been too long since I had done an interior (a staple of mine).

Church DomeChurch Dome
I am not a religious person but through my interest in architecture and art history, I have been fascinated by religious architecture for about twenty years now. I drew this piece in Photoshop using the pen tool and gradients and some layer effects.

The TempestThe Temptest
July's challenge theme on the Bryce Yahoo group is waves. I put this quick piece together tonight. I made the waves with Eye Candy and Photoshop. My son helped with the set up of the Bryce scene and has decided the island in the background is "New Island" from the first Pokémon Movie (Mewtwo Strikes Back).

Land Ho!Land Ho!
July's challenge theme on the Bryce Yahoo group is waves and regatta. This time I used Pinhead's ship, a model he built for Bryce101 in 2002. The sky is pure Bryce but the ship and waves have had some work done in Photoshop.

Peeling PlasterPeeling Plaster
As I've mentioned before, I'm fascinated by architecture and old buildings. This Photoshop drawing brings together those two interests. I've simplified the color scheme to focus the attention on the architectual aspects of the building.

Ship in a BottleShip in a Bottle
July's challenge theme on the Bryce Yahoo group is waves and regatta. I've used Pinhead's ship again but this time I took a tongue in cheek approach.

The Unit Triangle in Fourier SpaceThe Unit Triangle in Fourier Space
Ian sent me an image from a program he's written called C Plotter. I liked it so much for its colors and shapes that I made a grayscale version and used it to create a terrain in Bryce. I then used the color version as the material for the terrain. This is the result of our "collaboration."

The NeighborhoodThe Neighborhood
It's a typical American neighborhood that one might find in the moutainy areas. It's not a suburb; it's a little more rural than a suburb.

Oscar's PlaceOscar's Place
The Bryce Yahoo! group has announced that August will be "photorealism" month. I pulled together these models from my library and set them up to practice some lighting techniques I haven't used in a while. I tend more towards either theatrical or chirascurro lighting.
