February 2005
I'm still having fun exploring MojoTree but I'm also going back to the art of the boolean. I've been modeling things in Bryce 5 without the benefit of Carrara as I haven't installed it yet on my iBook.

Crabs on Brighton BeachCrabs on Brighton Beach
Brighton Beach is my current MojoWorld work in progress planet. This render uses two tree presets (yes -- the crabs are trees!) and some original boulders.

Created February 1, 2005

Our CouchOur Couch
I know it would be easier to just take photographs of our townhouse but I'm having more fun building them in Bryce. The couch is all Bryce, being a combination of symetrical lattices and booleaned primitives. All the textures are DTE creations.

Filling the DamnFilling the Dam
My first of three renders of Planet Ulysses (now challenge 168) during the challenge period. As I didn't use any sort of controls on the placement of trees by sea level, scenes of flooding are possible.

Created February 3-4, 2005

Higher GroundHigher Ground
My second of three renders of Planet Ulysses (now challenge 168) during the challenge period. Here I am at the top of a mountain, waiting for the flood to clear.

Pumpkin HillPumpkin Hill
My final render of Planet Ulysses (now challenge 168) during the challenge period. I headed south where I encountered some enticing pumpkins but I had to beat a hasty retreat when I spoted the dreaded harlequin beatle coming towards me.

ShorelineShoreline
On another continent on Planet Brighton I found a salt hungry species of plant that grows along the shoreline. Ok, in reality, I'm experimenting with MojoTree and planting my creations at different spots on the planet.

The Mud FlatsThe Mud Flats
I like these little woody weed things. They were a happy MojoTree find. They are also now "planted" on Planet Brighton.

Late After NoonLate Afternoon
I did some color correction in Photoshop to this render of Planet Valentine (currently on offer from the 3DCommune via Pandromeda's site). Without the adjustments it would have been a blue sky day with a green mountainside. I wanted to bring a little drama into the final render.

Created February 8-9, 2005

Bridge at SunsetThe Bridge at Sunset
I've done another representation of the San Mateo Bridge, this time in Bryce. All the models are boolean operations and all the textures are DTE creations (including the striped line). This is actually a test render but I liked it well enough to post it. I have more details and refinements to make.

Shadows on the WallShadows on the Window
It's been a while since I've done a Photoshop drawing so today I did this quick sketch the shadow of a tree against a wall. The trickiest bit was getting the tree reflection in the window to look recognizable as a tree. It needed to look organic and not like a flat raggedy shape.

Rocky ShoreRocky Shore
I'm still adding details to Planet Brighton. For this planet I've opted for lots of local forests, rather than complex global forests. The localized ones allow me greater variety and seem to be easier on the computers' processors.

Light the FireLight the Fire
The lighthouse is a tree. It comes with MojoWorld and am in awe of things that MojoTree can create. Someday I hope to be able to create things like this lighthouse. Anyway, a nautically themed planet like Brighton needs a lighthouse, so I've added one in. I'll probably add a few more here and there.

Ancient SandsAncient Sands
Rendered over the weekend. It's a view from the challenge planet (Arak) for week 169.

Created February 11-4, 2005

Fingers of GodFingers of God
A render from Nectarine (challenge 170). I like these tower displacements. For al the detail, the planet renders really quickly.

Created February 14-5, 2005

Blue ShadowsBlue Shadows
Another render from Planet Nectarine (challenge 170). There is a lot of color variety on thsi planet

Created February 14-5, 2005

Cardiff FrostCardiff Frost
Cardiff is my recent work in progress planet. I still need to add foliage but I'm happy with the displacements and materials.

My Rainy Day CommuteMy Rainy Day Commute
It's not a great drawing but I drew it to get over the frustration of a very long and wet drive home.

The RocksThe Rocks
I'm a big fan of voroni driven bolders and JBA's Planet Goldtop (Challenge 171) has loads of them

Created February 25-8, 2005

Geologic AbstractGeologic Abstract
Click on the thumbnail to see a huge render with lots of detail. These rocks aren't as smooth as they first appear!

Cold Crab (Cardiff)Cold Crab (Cardiff)
I really like the hermit crab (mojo tree) that comes with the program. For this little crab, I've tweeked the parameters a little and given the shell a new texture. Cardiff, is my latest WIP planet.
